Each year on 18 April, radio amateurs around the
world celebrate World Amateur Radio Day.
On that day in 1925 the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) was founded.
In 1913 there occurred the first recorded
instance of amateur radio being used to provide communications in a
natural disaster, during severe flooding in the Midwest of the United States.
Accordingly, the theme of the event for 2013 is “Amateur
Radio: Entering Its Second Century of Disaster Communications.”
AMATEUR RADIO EXAM ON WORLD AMATEUR
RADIO DAY
An
ASOL Exam will be conducted by Wireless Monitoring Station, Ministry of
Communications & IT on 18 April 2013 to coincide World Amateur Radio Day at N.I.,University, Kumaracoil,
Kanyakumari District, for candidates trained by
NIAR.
YURI’S
NIGHT 2013, Hyderabad : 12 April 2013
We are pleased to inform you that National Institute of
Amateur Radio jointly with Dhruva Space and Vinoothna Geetha Media are organising Yuri’s Night (not-for-profit event), a global celebration of
humanity’s past, present, and future in space.
Yuri’s Night events are held
around the world each year in the month of April commemorating the
day of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin’s first manned spaceflight on April
12, 1961 and the inaugural launch of NASA’s Space Shuttle on April 12,
1981. Dhruva Space has signed an MoU with Yuri’s Night to
bring the space party to India.
The main event is organized in Birla Science Center, Hyderabad on 12th April 2013 from 4:00PM onwards. The event has talks/demos by SpaceMasters from India, Germany and Spain, amateur radio communications
besides Star Gazing, satellite tracking, Music and element of surprise
etc.
Yuri’s Night shall be celebrated
in prestigious institutions across India such as IIT Delhi, IIT
Banaras, BITS Goa, UVCE Bangalore. This
annual event of celebration of human spaceflight attracts over 100,000
people in over 75 countries on all 7 continents, while tens of
thousands more watch the 12-hour live Yuri’s Night Global Webcast and participate online in the virtual world.

Amateur Radio Classes at Bharat Scouts & Guides, New Delhi
Training Programme for Amateur Station Operators Licence has started in Bharat Scouts & Guides
NHQ, VU2BSG, New Delhi from 19th to 30th August 2011. The class timings are from
10.00 am to 5.00 pm. The Course coordinators are Mrs.D.Bharathi

Amateur Radio Classes was conducted at NIAR, Hyderabad from 1.8.2011 as
follows:
Batch 1: 10.00 am to 11.00 am Batch 2: 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm
The exam is proposed to be held at the end of October 2011.

Transceiver Assembling Workshop at NIAR
A 40 Meter Transceiver (JOTA model) assembling workshop was held at NIAR, Hyderabad during 7 to 10 July 2011. It was conducted by Mr. Rama Prabhu, VU2DEV and Mr.Sudhindra,
VU3PWT.
ADCN Station at Chickmagalur

The Amateur Radio Advanced Digital Communication Network (ADCN) Station at Chickmagalur was set up at Mountain View College on 7th July, 2011. The Incharge
of the station is OM Jowhar Azad, VU3HDS.

The Amateur Radio Messaging Server
(RMS) Gateway Station was inaugurated by Mr.B.M.Baveja,
VU2BMB, Group Coordinator, Department of Information Technology, Ministry
of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India at
Indian Institute of Hams, (VU2IIH), 2nd Floor, Gate No.2, Sree Kanteerava Outdoor
Stadium, Kasturba Road, Bangalore 560001 on
Wednesday, 6th July 2011.This project is implemented by National Institute
of Amateur Radio (NIAR), Hyderabad.

Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR), Hyderabad had earlier
organized a successful Dx-pedition
(VU4NRO/VU4RBI) in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands
during December, 2004. The team members prematurely stopped the Dx-pedition activity after tsunami disaster struck
the South Asian region on 26th December 2004 and mobilized
their communication resources to provide humanitarian service to support
essential rescue and relief operations. The services of these amateur
radio operators were appreciated by several agencies in India
and abroad.
